MARCH, SEPTEMBER

The Everest Base Camp trek is one of the greatest walks on Earth. Over 18 days you will trek through the Khumbu Valley in Nepal’s Sagarmatha National Park, passing through Sherpa villages, crossing suspension bridges over deep river gorges, and walking beneath some of the highest mountains on the planet — Everest (8,849m), Lhotse (8,516m), Nuptse (7,861m), Ama Dablam (6,812m), Pumori (7,161m), and Cho Oyu (8,188m).
The trek takes you through the Khumbu region and the foothills of the Himalaya, the highest mountain range in the world. Eight of the planet’s fourteen 8,000-metre peaks are in this region, and from the trail you will see many of them. The Himalaya contains some of the most dramatic mountain landscapes anywhere — deep valleys, glacial moraines, ancient monasteries, and Sherpa villages that have barely changed in centuries.
Pat Falvey has completed four expeditions to Everest, summiting twice from both the north (Tibetan) and south (Nepalese) routes. He is the first person in the world to complete the Seven Summits twice. When you trek with his team, you are walking with guides who understand altitude, acclimatisation, and this specific valley better than almost anyone.
The trek finishes at Everest Base Camp at 5,364m, followed by a pre-dawn climb to Kala Patthar at 5,545m for the best close-up view of Everest’s summit pyramid at sunrise. No technical climbing is required — this is a trekking expedition, not a mountaineering one — but the altitude, the terrain, and the length of the trek make it a serious physical and mental achievement.
Group departures run from Dublin with Pat’s team, and private treks for groups of two or more can be arranged for any date. Pat’s team handles all logistics from Ireland: flights, internal transfers, accommodation, permits, guides, porters, and meals. You focus on the walking.
See what the EBC trek looks like on the ground — from the flight into Lukla to the Sherpa villages of the Khumbu Valley, the final steps at Base Camp, and the sunrise from Kala Patthar.

How much does the Everest Base Camp trek cost? The Everest Base Camp trek with Pat Falvey Irish & Worldwide Adventures costs €3,900 land only. This covers all accommodation, meals on the trek, internal flights between Kathmandu and Lukla, national park permits, guide and porter fees, and airport transfers in Nepal. International flights from Ireland, visa fees (approximately €50), travel insurance, and personal gear are not included. A €500 deposit secures your booking, with the balance due 16 weeks before departure.
How much does it cost to trek to Everest Base Camp from Ireland? The total cost from Ireland is typically €4,500 to €5,500 depending on flight prices at the time of booking. The land cost is €3,900, and return flights from Dublin to Kathmandu usually cost between €600 and €1,500 depending on the airline and how far in advance you book. Travel insurance and visa fees add approximately €150 to €250.
How long is the Everest Base Camp trek? The full trip is 18 days from Dublin to Dublin. This includes 2 days of travel to Kathmandu, 1 day exploring the city, 12 trekking days (including 2 rest and acclimatisation days), a flight day from Lukla back to Kathmandu, a flexible buffer day, and a travel day home. The trekking portion covers approximately 130km on foot.
How hard is the Everest Base Camp trek? The trek is graded moderate. No technical climbing or mountaineering skills are needed — you are walking on established trails the entire way. The main challenge is the altitude: you will be trekking above 4,000m for several days and reaching 5,545m at Kala Patthar. A good level of cardiovascular fitness is needed, and you should be comfortable walking 5 to 7 hours per day on uneven terrain. Pat’s team provides training guidance after booking.
Do I need to be very fit to do Everest Base Camp? You need a reasonable level of fitness but you do not need to be an athlete. If you can comfortably hike for 5 to 6 hours over hilly terrain, you have a good starting point. We recommend beginning a training programme at least 3 to 4 months before departure, focusing on hill walking, cardiovascular fitness, and building endurance. Our team provides specific training advice once you book.
What is the best time of year to trek to Everest Base Camp? The best trekking seasons are March to May (spring) and September to November (autumn). These months offer the most stable weather, clearest skies, and best mountain views. Pat Falvey’s group departures are scheduled during these windows. Winter treks are possible but much colder, and the monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rain and poor visibility.
What is included in the Everest Base Camp trek price? The €3,900 land cost includes airport transfers in Nepal, return internal flights between Kathmandu and Lukla, all accommodation (hotels in Kathmandu, teahouses on the trek), all meals during the trek, national park entry fees, and all guide, porter, and cook fees. Not included: international flights, Nepal visa, travel insurance, personal gear, medication, and meals in Kathmandu outside of the trek.
Do I need travel insurance for Everest Base Camp? Yes — travel insurance that covers trekking above 5,000m, helicopter rescue, medical assistance, and repatriation is mandatory. Standard travel insurance policies often exclude high-altitude trekking. Pat’s team can recommend a specialist insurer that covers trekking to 6,000m.
How high is Everest Base Camp? Everest Base Camp sits at 5,364m (17,598ft). The trek also includes an ascent to Kala Patthar at 5,545m (18,192ft), which gives you the best close-up view of Everest’s summit pyramid. These are the two highest points on the trek.
Can I trek to Everest Base Camp from Ireland? Yes — Pat Falvey Irish & Worldwide Adventures runs group departures from Dublin to Everest Base Camp. The team handles flights, transfers, permits, accommodation, guides, and porters. You fly from Dublin to Kathmandu (usually via a Middle Eastern or European hub), spend a couple of days in the city, then fly to Lukla to begin the trek.
How long is the walk to Everest Base Camp? The trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp takes approximately 8 to 9 trekking days, with 2 rest days built in for acclimatisation. The return trek from Base Camp to Lukla takes 3 to 4 days. The total trekking distance is approximately 130km.
What is the altitude of Kala Patthar? Kala Patthar sits at 5,545m (18,192ft) and is the highest point on the trek. It is a rocky outcrop above Gorak Shep that gives you the best close-up, unobstructed view of Everest’s summit pyramid. Most groups climb it before dawn to catch the sunrise hitting the summit — one of the most spectacular sights in the Himalaya.

We are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment during our climbs. Here are the key aspects of our approach to managing team dynamics:
Pacing: The climbing pace is carefully managed to accommodate the slowest team member. This ensures that everyone stays together, which is crucial for group cohesion and overall safety. We believe that climbing as a unified group enhances the experience and increases the chances of everyone reaching the summit successfully.
Team Cohesion: We encourage all team members to support one another throughout the journey. Our guides are experienced in facilitating positive group dynamics and will help maintain a spirit of cooperation and mutual support.
Safety and Success: By accommodating all team members and ensuring no one is left behind, we maximize both safety and summit success rates. This approach allows for a more enjoyable and less stressful experience for everyone involved.
We understand that climbing in a group setting can present unique challenges, but it also offers rewarding opportunities for teamwork and camaraderie.
