CLIMBING KILIMANJARO FROM IRELAND

We’ve been taking Irish climbers to Kilimanjaro since 1995, so we understand the questions that come with planning your first high-altitude adventure.

We’ll help you prepare before you leave Ireland, from training and equipment advice to flights, insurance and what to expect on the mountain. When you arrive in Tanzania, our experienced local mountain team will be there to support you throughout the expedition.

You don’t need to be an experienced mountaineer to climb Kilimanjaro. You need a reasonable level of fitness, good preparation and, most importantly, the determination to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

What you can expect from us:

Departures from Ireland

Full pre-trip preparation and advice

Experienced Irish and Tanzanian mountain team

Carefully planned Machame Route and acclimatisation

Fully serviced trek with guides, porters and cooks

No technical climbing experience required

Support from the day you book until you return home

30+ Years on Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro is one of Pat Falvey’s favourite mountains in the world. Pat has reached the summit more than 65 times, and over 2,000 people have reached the top with our teams since we began operating on Kilimanjaro in 1995.

That experience matters. It influences how we plan the itinerary, how we approach acclimatisation, the people we work with on the mountain and, above all, how we look after you.

The journey itself is extraordinary. You climb from lush rainforest through heather and moorland, into the alpine desert and finally the arctic environment of the summit.

At 5,895m, Uhuru Peak is the highest point in Africa and one of the Seven Summits — and unlike many of the world’s great peaks, reaching the summit does not require technical climbing experience.

Thinking about climbing Kilimanjaro?

Talk to us before you book. We’ll answer your questions, explain exactly what’s involved and help you decide if Kilimanjaro is right for you.

AN ADVENTURE BEYOND THE TREK

The Kilimanjaro expedition goes beyond the mountain itself. Tanzania is home to some of the most spectacular wildlife and landscapes in Africa. Many of our groups extend their trip with a safari to Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, or a few days on the beaches of Zanzibar. Pat’s team can arrange safari and Zanzibar extensions as part of your booking.

ITINERARY & FAQ's

YOUR 10-DAY KILIMANJARO ADVENTURE

10 days | 7 days on Kilimanjaro | Machame Route | Highest Point 5,895m

Our Kilimanjaro climb follows the Machame Route, giving you valuable time to acclimatise while experiencing the extraordinary changing landscapes of Africa’s highest mountain.

Day 1 – Ireland to Tanzania
Depart Ireland for Kilimanjaro International Airport. Your adventure begins.

Day 2 – Arrive Kilimanjaro
Arrive in Tanzania and transfer to your hotel. Today is about resting after your journey, meeting the team and preparing for the mountain. We’ll have a full expedition briefing and final equipment check.

Day 3 – Machame Gate to Machame Camp
1,950m → 2,980m | Rainforest
After registration at Machame Gate, we begin our climb through Kilimanjaro’s beautiful rainforest to our first camp.

Day 4 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp
2,980m → 3,840m | Heather & Moorland
We leave the rainforest behind and climb onto the Shira Plateau. The landscape changes dramatically and, weather permitting, we get our first magnificent views of Kilimanjaro.

Day 5 – Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
3,840m → 4,637m → 3,950m | Alpine Desert
An important acclimatisation day. We climb high to Lava Tower before descending to sleep lower at Barranco Camp — an important part of helping your body adapt to the altitude.

Day 6 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
3,950m → 4,030m | Alpine Desert
We start with one of Kilimanjaro’s great experiences — the famous Barranco Wall. From the top, we continue through spectacular mountain scenery to Karanga Camp. This shorter day gives us valuable additional acclimatisation.

Day 7 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
4,030m → 4,600m | Alpine Desert
A steady climb takes us to our high camp at Barafu. We eat, rest and make our final preparations for the summit. Tonight, everything is focused on the challenge ahead.

Day 8 – Summit Day: Uhuru Peak
4,600m → 5,895m → 3,100m | Arctic Zone
The day we have been preparing for. We leave Barafu around midnight and climb through the darkness towards Stella Point.

As dawn breaks over Africa, we continue towards Uhuru Peak at 5,895m — the highest point in Africa.

After celebrating on the summit, we begin our long descent to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.

Day 9 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
3,100m → approx. 1,640m
Our final walk takes us back through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. It’s time to celebrate what we have achieved before transferring back to the hotel for a shower, a good meal and a comfortable bed.

Day 10 – Home, Safari or Zanzibar
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your journey home, or continue your African adventure with an optional safari or Zanzibar extension.

A NOTE ABOUT YOUR ITINERARY

Kilimanjaro is an adventure at high altitude, and flexibility is important. Weather, trail conditions, the wellbeing of individual climbers and the needs of the group can sometimes require changes to the planned itinerary.

Our guides will always make decisions with your safety and the wellbeing of the team as their priority.

  • Preparation: We advise participants to engage in a regular fitness regimen well in advance of the trip. This preparation will significantly enhance your enjoyment and ability to successfully complete the activities planned.

Our team is here to provide guidance and support in preparing for your journey. If you have any concerns or require further details, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment during our climbs. Here are the key aspects of our approach to managing team dynamics:

  • Pacing: The climbing pace is carefully managed to accommodate the slowest team member. This ensures that everyone stays together, which is crucial for group cohesion and overall safety. We believe that climbing as a unified group enhances the experience and increases the chances of everyone reaching the summit successfully.

  • Team Cohesion: We encourage all team members to support one another throughout the journey. Our guides are experienced in facilitating positive group dynamics and will help maintain a spirit of cooperation and mutual support.

  • Safety and Success: By accommodating all team members and ensuring no one is left behind, we maximize both safety and summit success rates. This approach allows for a more enjoyable and less stressful experience for everyone involved.

  •

We understand that climbing in a group setting can present unique challenges, but it also offers rewarding opportunities for teamwork and camaraderie.

WHY DOES IT COST €4,250 TO CLIMB KILIMANJARO?

Climbing Kilimanjaro is much more than paying for a guide to take you up a mountain. Behind every climber is an experienced team of guides, porters and cooks, together with park fees, accommodation, food, transport, equipment and the logistics required to operate safely at altitude.

We have been taking people to Kilimanjaro since 1995, and our priority has always been to give you the best possible opportunity to reach the summit safely and enjoy the journey along the way.

Your €4,250 pays for:

Experienced guides and a professional mountain crew supporting you throughout the climb.

Kilimanjaro National Park fees and permits, which make up a significant part of the cost of every expedition.

Porters and cooks who transport the expedition equipment, establish camp and prepare your meals.

Accommodation and meals, including a fully serviced trek while you are on the mountain.

A carefully planned itinerary and acclimatisation programme rather than trying to get you up and down the mountain as quickly as possible.

Support before you leave Ireland, including preparation, equipment advice and answering the questions that inevitably come with taking on Kilimanjaro.

Support when things don’t go according to plan. On a high-altitude mountain, good organisation and an experienced team matter.

There are cheaper ways to climb Kilimanjaro. Our aim has never been to be the cheapest. Our aim is to provide a professionally organised expedition where you are properly supported from the day you book until you return from the mountain.

Since 1995, more than 2,000 people have reached the summit of Kilimanjaro with our teams.
