Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar Beach Holiday from Ireland

This trip combines East Africa’s finest safari experience with one of the Indian Ocean’s most beautiful island destinations. Over 9 days, you visit three of Tanzania’s top national parks — Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire — before flying to Zanzibar for beach time, Stone Town, and the chance to properly unwind after days of game drives.

Lake Manyara National Park sits at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and is home to flamingos, hippos, giraffes, and the famous tree-climbing lions. The Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed volcanic caldera and one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and black rhino — all in a single day’s game drive across the crater floor. Tarangire National Park is known for its massive elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and dry-season wildlife concentrations that rival the Serengeti.

After three days of safari, you fly to Zanzibar — a tropical archipelago off the Tanzanian coast famous for its white sand beaches, turquoise waters, spice plantations, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stone Town. You have two full days to relax at your hotel, explore the narrow streets and markets of Stone Town, or take a spice tour or snorkelling trip.

Pat Falvey’s team handles all logistics from Ireland — flights, accommodation, park fees, professional driver-guides, safari vehicles, internal flights to Zanzibar, and airport transfers. This is an easy-grade trip with no trekking or physical demands — perfect as a standalone holiday or as an add-on after a Kilimanjaro expedition.

Safari & Zanzibar — Why Add This to Your Trip?

Many of Pat’s Kilimanjaro groups add the safari and Zanzibar extension to their expedition. After days of trekking at altitude, a few nights in a safari lodge watching elephants and lions is a completely different kind of experience — and three days on a Zanzibar beach is the perfect way to recover before flying home.

The safari also works as a standalone trip. You do not need to climb Kilimanjaro to book this. It is open to anyone who wants to experience Tanzania’s wildlife and beaches, and the easy grading makes it suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

How much does the Tanzania safari and Zanzibar trip cost? The land-only cost starts from €1,750 per person. This covers all accommodation, park fees, safari vehicle and driver-guide, meals and drinks on safari, and airport transfers. Not included: international flights from Ireland, internal flights to Zanzibar, tips, travel insurance, visa fees, and personal expenses. A €500 deposit secures your booking.

How much does it cost to go on safari from Ireland? The total cost from Ireland is typically €2,500 to €3,500 depending on flight prices and the time of year. The land cost starts from €1,750, and return flights from Dublin to Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam usually cost €600 to €1,200. Internal flights to Zanzibar add approximately €100 to €200. Travel insurance, visa (approximately US$50), and tips are additional.

When is the best time for a Tanzania safari? The best months are June to September — Tanzania’s dry season — when the grass is short, animals gather around water sources, and game viewing is at its best. This is also the most comfortable time to visit, with warm days and cool evenings. The short rains in November and the long rains from March to May make game drives more difficult and some roads impassable.

Do I need to be fit for this trip? No — this is an easy-grade trip. You are driven between locations in a safari vehicle, and game drives involve sitting in the vehicle with stops for photography and observation. The Zanzibar section is beach-based. This trip is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

Can I combine the safari with a Kilimanjaro climb? Yes — many of our Kilimanjaro groups add the safari and Zanzibar as an extension after their expedition. Contact our team to add it to your Kilimanjaro booking. The safari runs immediately after you come down from the mountain.

What wildlife will I see? Tanzania is one of the best wildlife destinations on Earth. In the Ngorongoro Crater you have an excellent chance of seeing all of the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and black rhino. Lake Manyara is known for flamingos, hippos, and tree-climbing lions. Tarangire has massive elephant herds, wildebeest, zebra, and predators. Zanzibar adds marine life including dolphins and tropical fish.

Do I need a visa for Tanzania? Most nationalities, including Irish and UK passport holders, need a visa to enter Tanzania. This can usually be obtained online (e-visa) before travel or on arrival at the airport. The current fee is approximately US$50. Check with the Tanzanian immigration authority for the most up-to-date requirements.

Is Zanzibar included in the safari trip? Yes — the trip includes three nights in Zanzibar after the mainland safari. You fly from the mainland to Zanzibar on Day 6 and have two full days on the island before flying home on Day 9.

Can I book the safari without climbing Kilimanjaro? Yes — the safari and Zanzibar trip is available as a standalone holiday. You do not need to be a Kilimanjaro trekker to book this. It is open to anyone who wants to experience Tanzania’s wildlife and beaches.
